My mom says I need to work on presentation and I agree but with these babies, I couldn't bother. I was so excited and couldn't wait to try these turnovers that I snapped some quick pics and was on my way to devour this lovely pouch of apple goodness.

If you know me, I love apple pie and I've been making apple pie for a while now. The thing is - I can't get the crust down just right! It's always not big enough or a little crumbly/hard so that it can't roll out well. Then, I thought why not make apple turnovers using store bought puff pastry sheets? I haven't made apple pie in over a year so I thought today was the day I would bring back the goodness in my life.

This was my first time making apple turnovers so I was a little bit rusty as to handling the puff pastry and the measurements but cooking is a science! If you want to recreate this easy and simple recipe, check out the measurements and directions below.

Extreme closeup.

- One box of puff pastry sheets

- 6 tablespoons of butter (or less depending if you want a lot or a little bit of sauce)

- 4 baking apples of your choice (might want to use 3 or 2 as I had some leftovers)

- 1 cup of sugar

- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

- 1 tablespoon of flour (might want to add more depending if you want your sauce thick)

- 1 tablespoon of water

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Melt butter in pan. Add water and flour mixture to pan and mix until dissolved. Add sugar and cinnamon and mix until consistency is what you like. Stir in peeled and finely chopped apples to mixture and cool before filling puff pastry sheets.

Roll out puff pastry sheets to lightly floured surface and cut into four squares (you should have 8 in total). Fill with apple mixture and fold over. Crimp edges with fork and make slits to let steam escape. Brush remaining sauce on top to ensure it comes out golden brown. Bake for 25 min and let cool on rack before enjoying.
