3 Ways to Eat Healthy on a Budget

As someone who is not working, I need to rely on a budget. If I have no budget, then that's gonna be a problem. I'm usually strict with my budget and I try to stay as much as possible within my budget as I don't like going over my set goals for the month or week. I believe that everyone should be budgeting but specifically for food because it can get easy to lose track and overspend on food. People think that eating healthy is more expensive and I think it is. I haven't ran the numbers but I think it's because since food goes bad fast, food is more prone to wastage due to unexpected outings or invites. Here are three ways you can eat healthy on a budget today:

1. Look at grocery specials on smartphone apps - to save money, you can download your favorite grocery store's app onto your smartphone to unlock deals and savings that you wouldn't normally see on the mailbox circular.

2. Plan your meals around grocery circular specials - I get my grocery circulars on Tuesday and try to go grocery shopping on Wednesday because some stores have daily specials. Some go on Thursday and Friday (even Saturday) as well. For Sprouts, they have "Double-Ad Wednesday" which allows you to take advantage of the circular deals for the previous and current week so that's nice. My local Mexican supermarket has specials on Thursdays and Ralphs sometimes has specials on Fridays and Saturdays.

3. Shopping with a grocery list focusing on perishable foods - to really save money and stay within your budget, go the grocery store with a list or have a rough idea in your mind what you are going to eat for that week. This cuts down on unexpected and random purchases when you're at the grocery store. Focus on perishable foods such as fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
