Nothing Beats Rao's

Really.

Oh spaghetti, how I love you so. I'm sure we all had that one dish that was the one we first knew how to make so we can feed ourselves in case our parents can't and in case we can't get food. Mine was spaghetti, particularly meat sauce because I love pasta. I like white sauce but never knew how to get it to taste right but with red/meat sauce, it's so easy to not mess up.

Pasta sauce is quite easy to make from scratch but most of the time, I like using jarred pasta sauce. Particularly Rao's. If you haven't heard about Rao's, where have you been? I first heard about Rao's somewhere online; I forgot the article but it was about their sauce. I later found out that they also have restaurants so I thought "if you have jarred sauce and restaurants, it must be that they have been in business for a long time [since 1896] and that they're doing something right." I tried their sauce and it was no joke life-changing.

Recipe adapted from my mother's spaghetti recipe is as follows:

- 1 box of pasta (I used Barilla's spaghetti)

- Jar of your favorite Rao's flavor (I used Arrabbiata)

- 1 lb of ground beef (can sub turkey or leave out)

- Chopped onions and garlic

- One package of mushrooms (finely chopped)

- 1 carrot (finely chopped)

- Sale e pepe (salt and pepper)

- Olive oil

- Parm for garnish

Cook pasta in salted water until al dente. Save some pasta water. Saute onions and garlic in olive oil. Add ground beef and cook. Drain the fat with paper towel. Add jar of Rao's and chopped carrot and mushrooms. Season to taste and bring to boil. Let simmer until done (10-15 min; the longer, the better) and add pasta water (if desired) for taste and flavor. Serve over al dente pasta and sprinkle with cheese. Parsley garnish would work well here too but I had no parsley.

I can't describe how good this was. To me, most pasta is good but Rao's really makes your pasta 10 times better. Rao's does everything right and I'm really satisfied with the Arrabbiata flavor. It was my first time trying Arrabbiata since I'm not a huge fan of spicy food but it wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be so it was very enjoyable. Noodles are so fun to eat and pasta is my favorite thing to eat. Dinner doesn't have to be hard when you've got Rao's. Pulito!

Thank you so much to Julianna and Rao's for letting me try some of Rao's sauces and for this wonderful opportunity!
